Years of classroom visits as an Autism and SEND Specialist have taught me: The behaviour everyone remembers is rarely where the story starts.
I've sat on many tiny chairs. Stood in corners or doorways so I don't disturb the flow. Watched from the back of the room with a notebook trying to blend in, observing and watching what happens before the moment everyone else clocks. Because the chain always starts earlier. This could be thirty seconds earlier, perhaps days ago.
Every week, I go through one of those moments. The whole chain, not just the behaviour at the end. What happened first. What it meant. What it changed, once we've traced it back far enough. No frameworks. No acronyms. Just what I actually saw, and the questions it left me asking and discussing with staff. For teachers, TAs, SENCos, parents, anyone who's watched a behaviour happen and wondered what came before it.
